Proctored Exams

Proctored Exam Procedures

In order to successfully complete the pre-license course, students must take and score a minimum of 75% on a proctored final exam administered in an accredited educational facility or other proctor as approved by the Academy.

For security purposes and the protection of the school and the student, the final exam is a paper exam sent directly to the proctor by U.S. mail.  The proctor shall not be related by blood or marriage and shall not have any association (personal or business) with the student.  The student will be furnished with a "Request for Testing Proctor" form which must be completed by an acceptable proctor and returned to the Academy before testing.  When the course is completed, the exam will be sent to the proctor, who will return the completed exam to the Academy.  You are unable to view the exam and ask questions when using an outside proctor and the certificate of completion is issued after the proctor returns the exams and they have been reviewed.  If you wish these services, you may complete the exam at our Aurora office.

Examples of acceptable proctors include, but are not limited to:

  • Accredited university, college, community college, school, principal, director, teacher, instructor, librarian, or testing center
  • Librarian at a public or private library
  • Practicing attorney
  • Clergyman

The Illinois Academy of Real Estate must approve any other proctor.

Generally, public libraries do not charge to proctor exams, while most universities, colleges and learning centers will charge anywhere from $5.00 to $100.00.  The student is responsible for any proctoring fees associated with having the final exam proctored.

A student within 50 miles of our Aurora location must complete the course final(s) at our Aurora location.  Testing is by appointment only.  At the time of testing, the student will have the opportunity to review the exam and ask questions.  Certificate of completion is issued immediately.
