License Act  of 2000

                         

On December 31, 2009, Governor Quinn signed into law amendments to the Illinois Real of 2000.  The focus of the amendments is consumer protection and increased professional competence of real estate licensees.  Changes include:

Entry Level Real Estate Licensing - Real Estate Broker

  • Beginning May 1, 2011 all new licensees will be required to meet the educational requirements of a "brokers" license. This new broker license permits the same activities as the current salesperson license but includes more comprehensive educational requirements.
  • No new salesperson licenses will be issued and the license catagory will be phased out on April 30. 2012
  • 90 hours of approved pre-license education is required.  15 hours must be classroom or interactive media.
  • 30 hour of post license education must be completed by first renewal of license.  15 hours must be classroom or interactive media.
  • 12 hours of continuing education each subsequent renewal.

New License - Managing Broker

  • Beginning May 1, 2011 all new licensees will be requires prior licensure as a salesperson or broker for 2 out of the past 3 years.
  • 45 hours of approved pre-license education is required. 15 hours must be classroom or interactive media.
  • 24 hours of continuing education each subsequent renewal.  12 hours in broker management issues which must be in a classroom or interactive media.
